Narellan Town Centre

Narellan Town Centre

The $200 million redevelopment of the Narellan Town Centre in Sydney's south-west has officially opened.

One of the largest retail projects in Greater Sydney, the construction program involved a major extension of the existing shopping centre on the south side of Camden Valley Way, joining the brand new section of the Centre on the north side of the major arterial road.

A 38-metre wide pedestrian link bridge spanning 48 metres across Camden Valley Way at the retail level - the full width of the shopping mall - now integrates the north and south precincts, making the total gross floor area 132,810 square metres.

Built by retail construction company Mainbrace, the Narellan Town Centre redevelopment will capitalise on the significant population and employment growth forecast in Sydney’s south west growth corridor.

Mainbrace Project Director Michael Witts said the Narellan Town Centre redevelopment was a technically and logistically complex project with many challenges to overcome.

"It’s something that would not have been possible without the close, collaborative relationship Mainbrace established with the client from the outset," he said.

“Working under an Early Contractor Involvement structure, we were able to develop detailed staging plans from the early cost stages, including traffic and pedestrian access, to enable the existing centre to continue trading.

“Early involvement enabled us to approach the design management for the project to optimise value engineering, providing better value for money to the client and effectively saving them 5% of the construction costs.

“We took into account the needs of different tenants, worked around lease expiries, and ensured loading access in and out while works were progressing, all while ensuring customers could visit a safe, clean and welcoming centre,” Witts said.

Arnold Vitocco, Director of the project's owner Dart West Retail, said the successful completion of Narellan Town Centre will herald a change in the local and broader catchment's shopping habits.

“There was a lot of escape expenditure in our studies. Narellan suffered from people only being able to do half or three quarters of what they needed to do. We now complete that,” Vitocco said.

“It’s what has been missing in Narellan - the entertainment food precinct to complement our cinemas. You have more to do here now than just your grocery shopping," he said.

In all, 35,000 square metres of net lettable area was added to the existing Narellan Town Centre south of Camden Valley Way, while on the greenfield site on the north side of the road is a brand new connected centre with 23,207 square metres of NLA.

The development includes:

  •     An increase of retail space from 36,000 square metres to 72,000 square metres.
  •     The addition of a new Target & Kmart.
  •     More than 100 new retailers including stunning new boutiques and top national fashion brands.
  •     Over 1,500 new additional car park spaces which will be served by six new 'travelators', two escalators and two lifts.
  •     Refurbished and enlarged Woolworths Supermarket and one of the largest new Coles Supermarkets in Australia.
  •     New civic plazas and entertainment precincts including an indoor/outdoor restaurant and casual dining precinct.
  •     Dedicated banking precinct and 3,000 square metres of new commercial space.
  •     Improved surrounding road network with shared pedestrian and bicycle paths around the Centre and additional new vehicular access points from Northern Rd, Old Northern Rd and Camden Valley Way.
  •     An estimated 1,000 positions available on completion.
