Woolworths’ next generation stores unveiled

Woolworths has opened its first next generation store at Warringah Mall on Sydney’s northern beaches last week.

The new store allows consumers to pick organic fruit and vegetables from the “largest organics range available” within a Woolworths. Health is a predominant focus of the new look store, with 26 bays in one aisle dedicated solely to healthy eating options with a large selection of new on-trend health foods and self-serve bulk foods and nuts.

Other new features of the multi-million dollar upgrade include an expanded freshly made in-store sushi section and a dedicated butcher cutting the meat to customers specifications, while also offering to spice and season. A cheese room with a dedicated full time cheese expert will offer more than 100 locally sourced Australian cheeses, while the marketplace feel of the fruit and vegetables section will extend throughout the store.

Recom Electrical Fit Out For Dan Murphy's Wagga

It has been years in the making and now Woolworths has officially revealed its plans to bring Dan Murphy's to the city.

Andrew Wilsmore, of Woolworths Liquor, confirmed a store would be opening on Edward Street in early 2014 and creating more than 35 jobs.

The multimillion-dollar investment in the city comes after the Masters Home Improvement store, another Woolworths project, which has injected more than $20 million into the economy.

Dan Murphy's had hoped to be in the city as early as 2005, but finding the right location, getting development approval and securing liquor licences has taken some time, Mr Wilsmore said.

Work is expected to begin on demolishing buildings on the corner of Edward and Flinders streets after tenants vacate the premises in early July.

"We're trying to get the building happening as soon as possible, but it will not be opening until the early quarter of next year," Mr Wilsmore said.

The 1410 square metre new concept store promises to be worth the wait in giving residents more choice than the Woolworths BWS store in Station Place, which will be closed as a result of the development.

The store will create 15 full-time or permanent part-time positions and more than 20 casual positions for work during peak periods.

Narellan Shopping Centre Project

$150 million Narellan Town Centre expansion to rival western Sydney’s biggest malls

After six years of planning and design, work has started on the $150 million expansion of Narellan Town Centre in Sydney’s southwest.

The expansion will make the town centre a rival to many of western Sydney’s major shopping centres, including next-door neighbour Macarthur Square.

Part of the expansion includes a skybridge over Camden Valley Way which will connect the old and the new buildings together.

Buchan Group principal Anthony Palamara, who has played an important role in shaping the centre’s design, said he was extremely proud of what was to come.

“We’ve worked very hard to push the design edge as far as we could,” he said.

“Externally the bridge and it’s two entry lobbies and sweeping green form of the facade will create a gateway landmark which embraces a restaurant precinct and civic plaza which we envision to become the new heart of the Narellan community.”

Mr Palamara said he was eager to see the final product which is expected to be completed by mid-2017.

“We’re very excited. Until the first slab of concrete is poured or first piece of steel is erected, the design is just drawings on paper ... but we’re very happy to see the construction works commencing and looking forward to seeing our designs realised.”

The construction is being lead by Dart West Developments.

Centre manager Brad Page said the skybridge, which will connect the two buildings over Camden Valley Way, was one of the pinnacles of the centre’s “extraordinary design”.

“We wanted to take pedestrian traffic off Camden Valley Way,” he said.

“It was vital to have shops on either side of the bridge so you don’t feel as if you’re going from one building to another ... that was a very important design aspect.

“We’re also really excited about the restaurant precinct which has been designed very well.”

Mr Page said he could not wait to see the final product which was a “necessary” piece of infrastructure for Narellan.

“Our carpark is full all day, every day. We’re currently not catering for our customers. That’s why we need this,” he said.
